چکیده

Thermal fluctuations in the coatings used to make high reflectors are becoming significant noise sources in precision optical measurements and are particularly relevant to advanced gravitational-wave detectors. There are two recognized sources of coating thermal noise; mechanical loss and thermal dissipation. Thermal dissipation causes thermal fluctuations in the coating which produce noise via the thermoelastic and thermorefractive mechanisms. We treat these mechanisms coherently, give a correction for finite coating thickness, and evaluate the implications for Advanced LIGO.

Coherent cancellation of photothermal noise in GaAs/Al0.92Ga0.08As Bragg mirrors

Thermal noise is a limiting factor in many high-precision optical experiments. A search is underway for novel optical materials with reduced thermal noise. One such pair of materials, gallium arsenide and aluminum-alloyed gallium arsenide (collectively referred to as AlGaAs), shows promise for its low Brownian noise when compared to conventional materials such as silica and tantala. However, Al...

Design of fiber-integrated tunable thermo-optic C-band filter based on coated silicon slab

Background: Optical filters are required to have narrow band-pass filtering in the spectral C-band for applications such as signal tracking, sub-band filtering or noise suppression. These requirements lead to a variety of filters that offer thermo-optic effect for optical switching, however, some of which without proper thermal and optical efficiency. Methods: In this paper we propose a tunable...

Information for “ A picogram and nanometer scale photonic crystal opto - mechanical cavity ”

These set of notes describe cavity optomechanics in the presence of additional thermo-optic tuning of the cavity resonance. We find that thermo-optic tuning results in correction factors to both the optical spring and optomechanical gain. In addition there is an overall saturation of the optomechanical coupling. These effects can be large for systems with large static thermo-optic tuning and fa...

Tapered Optical Fiber Coated with ZnO Nanorods for Detection of Ethanol Concentration in Water

This work presents ZnO nanorods coated multimode optical fiber sensing behavior in response to ethanol solution. The sensor operates based on modulation of light intensity which arises from manipulation of light interaction with the ambient environment in sensing region. For this purpose, two steps are experimentally applied here; etching and then coating fiber with ZnO nanorods to provide stro...

Enhanced Thermo-Optical Switching of Paraffin-Wax Composite Spots under Laser Heating

Thermo-optical switches are of particular significance in communications networks where increasingly high switching speeds are required. Phase change materials (PCMs), in particular those based on paraffin wax, provide wealth of exciting applications with unusual thermally-induced switching properties, only limited by paraffin's rather low thermal conductivity. In this paper, the use of differe...
